- "Client" / "you" — any individual who submits an enquiry, books an appointment, or engages a workshop service.
- "Service" — any of the three workshop engagements: Heirloom Watch Evaluation, Sensitive Restoration of Family Pieces, or Long-Term Watch Storage.
- "Piece" — the watch or timepiece submitted to the workshop by the client.
- "Agreement" — the written confirmation exchanged between the workshop and the client prior to any service engagement.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting an enquiry through our website, contacting the workshop by phone or email, or leaving a piece at the workshop, you confirm that you have read and understood these terms and agree to be bound by them.
Our services are available to individuals aged 18 and over who have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement under Malaysian law.
By submitting a piece to the workshop, you confirm that you are the legal owner of the piece, or that you have the authority of the legal owner to submit it for evaluation, restoration, or storage.
3. Service Description
The workshop offers three distinct service engagements:
- Heirloom Watch Evaluation (RM 510): A one-week bench examination resulting in a written condition report. No further work is performed without written approval.
- Sensitive Restoration (RM 2,420 standard scope): An 8–10 week project to restore an inherited piece to working condition using period-correct methods and materials. Scope is agreed in writing before work begins.
- Long-Term Watch Storage (RM 720/year): An open-ended storage arrangement with annual condition notes and photographs. The piece remains in the client's name and may be collected at any time.
Services are provided by appointment from the workshop premises in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Remote submission of pieces may be arranged by prior agreement.
4. Client Responsibilities
When engaging a workshop service, clients agree to:
- Provide accurate information about the piece and its provenance to the best of their knowledge
- Respond to written correspondence from the workshop within a reasonable timeframe
- Collect the piece at the agreed conclusion of the service, or renew the storage arrangement where applicable
- Not submit pieces known to be stolen, subject to a legal claim, or encumbered by third-party ownership
5. Intellectual Property
All content on this website — including text, photographs, and design — is the intellectual property of Mainspring Hall and may not be reproduced without prior written consent.
Written condition reports, restoration documentation, and photographs produced by the workshop during a service engagement are delivered to the client as part of that engagement. The client may use these documents for personal reference. Commercial reproduction or publication requires prior written consent from the workshop.
6. Payment Terms
All fees are quoted and payable in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR / RM). Payment is accepted by bank transfer or in person at the workshop. The following terms apply:
- Evaluation: Full payment of RM 510 is due on collection of the piece and report.
- Restoration: A deposit of 50% (RM 1,210) is due on written agreement of scope. The balance is due on collection of the completed piece.
- Storage: Annual fee of RM 720 is due on commencement of the arrangement and annually thereafter.
If additional scope is identified during a restoration project, the additional cost will be communicated and agreed in writing before any additional work proceeds. The standard restoration fee remains payable regardless of outcome.
Cancellation: Evaluation appointments may be cancelled with 48 hours notice at no charge. Restoration deposits are non-refundable once work has commenced. Storage arrangements may be terminated at any time; the annual fee is not refunded for the balance of the year.
7. Service-Specific Terms
Evaluation: The condition report represents the workshop's assessment of the piece at the time of examination. It is not a market valuation. The workshop undertakes no liability for changes in the piece's condition following its return to the client.
Restoration: The workshop will notify the client in writing if any component cannot be sourced to period-correct specification and will present alternatives before proceeding. The client's written approval is required for any deviation from the agreed scope. Timelines are estimates; complex pieces may require additional time.
Storage: The workshop takes reasonable care of pieces in storage but does not accept liability for damage or loss beyond the replacement value of the specific components affected, where such damage results from circumstances outside the workshop's reasonable control.
8. Disclaimers
The workshop's services are provided as described. We do not warrant specific outcomes from restoration work, including any particular rate of timekeeping accuracy or duration of running condition. Mechanical watches of significant age are subject to wear and variability that cannot be fully controlled.
Information provided in condition reports and manufacturer history notes is prepared to the best of the workshop's knowledge but does not constitute a professional appraisal or authentication for insurance or legal purposes.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Malaysian law, the workshop's total liability to any client for any claim arising from a service engagement shall not exceed the fee paid for that specific engagement.
The workshop shall not be liable for indirect, consequential, or economic losses, including loss of sentimental value or anticipated use of the piece. This limitation does not apply to liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
10. Termination
Either party may terminate a service engagement by written notice. The workshop reserves the right to decline or discontinue a service engagement if the client provides materially inaccurate information, fails to respond to correspondence within 30 days, or if a concern arises regarding ownership of the piece.
On termination, the workshop will return the piece to the client in its current state and invoice for any work completed to that point.
11. Dispute Resolution & Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. In the event of a dispute, both parties agree to first attempt informal resolution by written correspondence to [email protected].
If informal resolution is not achieved within 30 days, either party may refer the matter to mediation under the Mediation Act 2012 (Malaysia), or to the courts of Malaysia as the jurisdiction of first instance.
12. General Provisions
Entire agreement: These terms, together with any written engagement agreement, constitute the entire agreement between the parties for the relevant service.
Severability: If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
Waiver: Failure to enforce a provision does not constitute a waiver of the right to enforce it in future.
Notices: Formal notices under these terms should be sent by email to [email protected] or by post to the workshop address.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the revised date at the top of this page. Continued use of the website or workshop services following an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
